Modern means of transport are increasingly subject to the principles of comfort for the driver and passengers at the concurrently more and more exacting requirements for safety, energy efficiency, and environment protection. The introduction of electronics in various mechatronic systems was of great support to such a development.

This is the reason why decentralized drives and drive systems are becoming increasingly important in vehicles. Above all, the electronically commutated permanent magnet motors and other motors with their high operational reliability and easy control are going to be accepted in the auxiliary and servo motors sector, especially in electrically powered steering systems, and electrically powered suspension and braking systems.

Electrically powered steering systems (EPS) improve fuel economy and reduce emissions by allowing the automobile's engine to operate more efficiently and by reducing the weight of the vehicle. Traditional systems of HPS continually drain power from the engine, reducing its operating efficiency and increasing emissions. The Iskra DC brushless motor operates independently of the engine. This can increase fuel economy by more than five percent. Motor-driven steering systems are also much lighter, often less than half the weight of traditional power steering systems.

The continuous push for safer, more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles will be achieved by replacing traditional mechanical systems with faster and lighter intelligent systems and actuators.
